\u30bf\u30a4\u30c8\u30eb\uff1a Understanding Multisensory Perception for More Realistic and Intuitive Interaction Systems<\/p>\n

\u6982\u8981\uff1a Our real-world perceptual experiences are mostly specified by synchronous redundant and\/or complementary attributes across different senses. The multisensory nature of perception raises the question about how the information from diverse sense organs is processed to form a coherent representation of the world and at the same time benefit our intellectual behaviors by increasing perceptual reliability and saliency, and as a result, enhancing learning and reaction speed. On the other hand, recent years have seen a sharp increase of interest in virtual reality (VR) or mixed reality (MR), triggered by more affordable and light-weighted, responsive VR headsets. In these systems, most of users\u2019 virtual-world experiences are based on image, sound, and passive vibration. How to implement haptic feedback and what multi-media contents to generate is crucial for high-fidelity, immersive systems which enable active perception and provide intuitive interaction experiences. In this talk, I will briefly review related fields and introduce our work that interweaves multisensory perception research with VR system development. We focus on two fundamental issues in the field: cue combination and spatial representation. More specifically, in our audio-haptic experiments we investigated the process and constraints for multisensory integration, while in our visuo-haptic experiments we try to deepen our understanding of reference frames involved in cross-modal tasks and transformations between modalities. Both studies leverage multisensory interaction techniques and in turn provide hints for the design of human machine interface.<\/p>\n
