Okada,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">K. Toyama<\/span>, &amp; Y. Kobayashi, &#8220;Different pedunculopontine tegmental neurons signal predicted and actual task rewards,\u00a0J. Neurosci.,\u00a029(15): 4858\u201370,\u00a02009.\n<ul>\n<li>Reinforcement learning optimizes actions by minimizing predicted reward errors (the difference between predicted and actual rewards). \u00a0This research has proved the existence of the cell in PPTN\u00a0that encodes the predicted reward errors, marking a leap for uncovering the neural mechanism of reinforcement learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A. Kanemura<\/span>, S. Maeda, &amp;\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">S. Ishii<\/span>, &#8220;Superresolution with compound Markov random fields via the variational EM algorithm,&#8221;\u00a0Neural Netw.,\u00a022(7): 1025\u20131034, 2009.\n<ul>\n<li>This research dealt with the reconstruction-type superresolution problem and the accompanying registration problem. \u00a0We used a compound Markov random field for the prior, and proposed a Bayesian estimation method that marginalizes unknown variables, and showed its effectiveness not only in avoiding overfitting, but also in edge-preserving superresolution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>S. Shinomoto, H. Kim,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">T. Shimokawa<\/span>, N. Matsuno, S. Funahashi, K. Shima, I. Fujita, H. Tamura, T. Doi, K. Kawano, N. Inaba, K. Fukushima, S. Toyama<\/span>, &#8220;Relating neuronal firing patterns to functional differentiation of cerebral cortex,&#8221;\u00a0PLOS Comput.
