REVIEW OF THE ANATOMY, FUNCTION, THEORIES AND MODELS OF THE PREFRONTAL

CORTEX

This report summarizes various facts known about the prefrontal

cortex.  Section 1 outlines the anatomical connections between the

prefrontal cortex and other areas of the cortical and subcortical

structures.  Section 2 describes the functions ascribed to different

regions of the prefrontal cortex.  This functional description

includes an outline of the psychological tests.  Section 3 reviews the

psychological theories of the prefrontal function.  Neural network

models of the prefrontal cortex are briefly outlined in Section 4.

Some of the open problems for neural network modeling are suggested

and their importance to the design of Intelligent systems is given in

Section 5.
